“In the salon, we have a real mix of clients with different levels of white hair and different wishes for what they want for their white hair. Some are looking for more of a soft blend, some want total coverage and some just really want to embrace it and beautify their white.”
“How I recognise this client is someone that's maybe talking about using a lot of silver, blue or purple shampoo at home and is chasing that kind of white refinement with their hair. White hair is beautiful and often all it needs is a little enhancement or maybe neutralisation. Sometimes it can go a little bit yellow towards the ends. “You know, you could have minimal white hair, but it's really resistant. And you can have loads of white hair, and it covers perfectly. So, what I look for is what I would call a glassy effect. So, resistant hair is that compact cuticle with a really glassy finish. It tends to be quite coarse, maybe a little bit wiry. But to be honest even before getting to that point, your client can tell you if they have resistant hair!”
“A few tips when working with resistant white hair: start in that area, use one of the extra-coverage shades in fine sections and cover the top and bottom of each slice. With white hair in general, when you’re reaching for that up-to-100% coverage, you can increase your development time by up to 10 minutes. I would check it, I would give it the 30 minutes, scrape it back a little, see how it’s looking and if you need to, reapply and let it have another 10 minutes.”
