The outbreak and spread of COVID-19 has caused salons to close due to legal guidelines on social distancing (1.5-2 meters). As salons re-open for business higher levels of hygiene and additional standards for health & safety are needed to rebuild customer trust and loyalty. Procedures using items such as razors, scissors, combs, clippers and hairpins are already classified as infection risk procedures because these items can accidentally pierce the skin. Skin infections on the scalp and neck can be spread through hairdressing procedures.
This document aims to provide a set of recommendations to raise hair salon standards. They include implementation of best practice hygiene procedures for personnel hygiene, equipment cleaning, premises cleaning and workplace health and safety.
