From an inspired newcomer to Director of Color at Vidal Sassoon Academy, Tony's vibrant work and trajectory is mainly influenced by Fauvism.
Head to Tony Tsai’s Instagram and you’ll find a vibrant showcase of his hair artistry. Colours range from milky pastels to bold reds, while cuts encompass everything from blunt fringes to feathery layers. Tsai’s approach to colour? "Fauvism" he says simply, referring to the early-20th-century art movement that started in France and hinting at the strong hues and techniques that define his work.
Originally from Taiwan, Tsai has been on an 18-year journey that has seen him rise from inspired newcomer to Director of Color at Vidal Sassoon Academy. Now, he’s the co-founder of Epoch Academy, a Shanghai-based salon and hair academy that aims to nurture the next generation of creativeminded hairstylists. Despite Tsai’s impressive trajectory, his motivation remains refreshingly straightforward: "I just want to keep creating excellent work."
“There's definitely some Fauvism [in my work] – strong colours and fierce brushwork.”
